Are you wondering how to ensure Charlie Lonnit survives in The Devil in Me? Here’s what you need to know.
All of your five characters can survive, or they can all die in The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me. Their fate depends on two things: the choices you make, and how successful you are at completing quick time events. If you want to ensure that Charlie lives in The Devil in Me, here’s how to save him. Beware: there are some spoilers below, so read at your peril!
You need to make the first major decision as Charlie comes fairly early in the game. Not long after arriving at The World’s Fair Hotel, the lights go out, and your group of characters gets their first taste that something isn’t right. On exploring, Charlie finds his way into a room with an elaborate Saw-like murder scene set up. He accidentally steps on a pressure pad, which sends an axe flying in front of a bound-up victim. Step off the pressure pad, and the axe is going to decapitate the unknown person. But someone’s coming towards you with a knife, and if you don’t move, there’s a good chance you’re going to get stabbed.
And so, the first choice you need to make is whether to stay put, or to step off the pressure pad. Choose to step back off the pressure pad. It’s a grizzly scene, but at least Charlie walks away unhurt.
Another pivotal choice for Charlie comes later on, when he finds himself trapped in a furnace room down in the basement. He has two choices: try to open the door, or hide under the grate. The room is ablaze, so he has to act fast. You want to choose to hide under the grate. It seems as if Charlie might perish, but it’s the right path to take.
Finally, while still in the basement, you’ll find yourself confronted with a conveyor belt. A sign by the side of warns users of risk of death – much like all of The World’s Fair Hotel, then – but it seems to be Charlie’s only way out. You’ll need to successfully complete the quick time event then, once you’re at the other side of the conveyor, choose to hide rather than turn back.
But choosing those options alone isn’t enough. You’ll also have to successfully complete quick time events that come up while you’re in charge of Charlie. There’s also a section which requires him to balance on a beam across a high valley: fail to balance, and he’s going to plummet to his death. But make all the choices above and succeed in QTEs, and Charlie should be safe.
