The whole idea of this guide is the etiquette of invading and PVP combat in Dark Souls 3. Essencialmente, how not to be a douchebag when invading another player or being invaded yourself.
As an Invader (Using Red Eye Orb)
TLDR:
- Approach fairly- don’t fight when they’re occupied or look for a cheeky last hit.
- Fair 1v1, no healing estus, no surprise attacks or backstabs when they are using an emote. Think rules of the implemented 1v1 mode.
- Generally a good idea to 1v1 other spirits of the invaded person before the host of embers themself.
- Etiquette goes both ways, rules are off if they want to fight unfairly, try to 2v1 you or heal in a 1v1.
- Respect if someone does not want to fight you, and black separation crystal out or don’t get in the way too much.
Primeiramente, when invading another player it is always a good idea to remember- you are interrupting their playing experience. If they are a new player, inexperienced, or just need to get good, they might not appreciate the delay and inconvenience of you being in their world.
When entering a world as an invader, it is always in good manners to immediately approach the invaded and use an emote, such as a wave, um arco, or a hello carving to show your intentions. It is unfair and unsportsmanlike to ambush, pull a fight into enemy NPC’s, or attack someone while they are otherwise occupied.
As long as they too are polite, allow them to heal to full and when you are ready for a duel, use a bow emote or point at who you wish to fight if they have a summon.
A fight should always be 1v1, healing estus are not allowed, though healing spells are. As soon as your rival uses a healing estus the “rules” are off and you can heal as well if you wish.
If a host of embers doesn’t want to fight, as described in the next section, then you should either black separation crystal away to find someone who does want to fight, ou “bro” them and just move through the level with them without attacking.
It’s worth remembering too that as an invader, it doesn’t cost you anything to invade and then black separation crystal out if the person you invade doesn’t want to fight, but is very frustrating if you get invaded and lose souls, progresso, and/or an ember for something that wasn’t your choice.
As an Invadee (Host of Embers)
TLDR:
- Make your intentions clear as soon as you interact, bow/point to fight or sit at a bonfire/don’t interact if you wish them to leave.
- Follow good etiquette yourself, it ensures a fair, fun fight.
When you are invaded, the rules are fairly simple and unfortunately, you haven’t much of an option but to hope the invader is going to be chivalrous and fair. If they approach with amicability and without direct hostility then your options are open.
If you are in a tough area, trying to make it through or struggling, then let the invader know you see them but don’t fight them. Just progress through the area normally and leave them alone. Esperançosamente, they get the message as described in the previous section and act appropriately. You can also use the sit emote at the bonfire to inform the invader that you don’t want to fight.
If you have a summoned friend or spirit, usually it is proper to have the summon fight the invader 1v1 first, then the host, have them approach and point at the invader to challenge them. As with invading, the rules are simple: no healing estus is to be used, cheap shots, and otherwise, unsportsmanlike behavior is not suggested. Como acima, breaking the rules means the fight will devolve.
Observação
There’s nothing official about this guide, its’ main purpose is so newer players coming into the game can have some expectations and make the DS3 multiplayer community a more friendly and fun place. Being invaded can be a frustrating experience, especially if you are struggling with the game or still learning, losing souls to a ganker, an ember, or getting far into a level without a bonfire only to be set back by what always feels like an unfair fight.
If you find yourself wanting a skill-based PVP fight, use the in-built PVP game mode that the game provides. If you need to get covenant items from invading there is nothing stopping you from still being chivalrous while you do it. Adicionalmente, as an invader, its’ always a good idea to make the experience a positive one for the person you’re invading, a lot of invaders as well will trade down end game weapons and gear to a low SL character, or play through the game low SL in order to gank new players as soon as they start the game. This is a sure-fire way for people to quit the game altogether and never return. There are plenty of DS3 PVP communities to fight people on such a level, and without it being a 1-sided stomp. If you are the type of player who gets joy out of ruining a new players’ experiência, wasting someones’ tempo, or fighting someone unfairly who doesn’t even want to fight.
