This guide, written by the developer, outlines strategy tips for Shuzzler: The Word Game while also clarifying certain aspects of game mechanics.
Skipping Cards
Cards drawn from the deck can be skipped anytime by clicking on the deck to draw the next card. The advantage of skipping cards is to cycle through the deck to reveal and exhaust all of the Add Tiles or Add Vowel action cards, which add letter tiles to the tile grid. Getting all of the available letter tiles onto the tile grid early allows more options for spelling words making it easier to earn point cards. Jednakże, there are circumstances where skipping cards is disadvantageous.
It is generally not recommended to skip cards if the tile grid is already completely full (or close to being full) of letter tiles. If the tile grid is full, additional letters added to the tile grid will be obscured and unavailable to use in word submissions until letter tiles lower down in the grid are cleared. This becomes an issue when cards add certain important letter tiles to the grid that cannot be immediately used word submissions. Na przykład, if the Starts With “Z” card adds two “Z” letter tiles to the tile grid when drawn for the first time. If the added Z’s are unavailable for use in forming words, and no other Z tiles exist in the visible portion of the tile grid, then it will not be possible to earn the card. The card will then need to be skipped, and the next card revealed could cause the same problem.
Category Cards
Shuzzler challenges associative memory skills with Category cards that require spelling words that fall into a particular category. Naturalnie, there is a learning curve to mastering Category cards because of the priming effect. The act of consciously thinking of words that belong to a category will prime the brain at the subconscious level to recall more words as the brain works in the background to strengthen the associative memory connections relevant to the category. Niemniej jednak, players can benefit from the following tips to improve recall for category words further.
Visualize The Category
Visualization works best when words in a category are parts of a larger whole. Na przykład, visualizing the human body from head to toe can be helpful in identifying body parts for the Body Part category card.
Identify Sub-Categories
Thinking of sub-categories for a category card can be useful in triggering the associative memory to think more broadly and inclusively when coming up words. Na przykład, tropical fruit may call to mind mangos, coconuts, papayas, itp. within the broader fruit category, while red-colored fruits may call to mind cherries, pomegranates, or apples.
Look Away From The Screen
Co ciekawe, eye-movement actually affects problem-solving! When stuck on a card, try looking away from the screen. Looking upward and to the left stimulates visual memory and looking upward to the right stimulates visual constructive problem-solving. Looking away from the screen at a blank wall or other mundane object not directly in front of you also facilitates critical thinking by freeing you of visual distractions.
Word Length Cards
Some players have reported that they find word-length cards, that is cards that require spelling words with a specified word length, to be particularly challenging (particularly longer letters). A strategy for simplifying this challenge is to narrow down possible words by committing to a prefix. Jako przykład, the table below shows different start with the prefix “PRE” organized by the number of letters they contain:
Many of the words above can also be lengthened by adding the letter “S” Lub “es” to the end of the word to make them plural. Alternate forms and tenses of the same word can also lengthen or shorten words (np. “preying”, “preened”, “preacher”, “prepaid”).
Gwiazdy, Locks, & Klawiatura
The newest content for the game released in November 2022 introduced letter tiles marked with star, lock, or key icons in the upper left corner. As an additional condition for winning the game, all of these letter tiles must be cleared to beat the game. Lock and key letter tiles are more restrictive than starred tiles, because one letter tile with a lock icon and one letter tile with a key icon (also need to be the same color) must be used in the same word submission for the word to be valid. Below are some additional useful things to know about star, lock, and key letter tiles:
- The first four rows of letter tiles (all games start with 4-rows of tiles) contain 2-starred tiles per row. All subsequently added rows of tiles triggered by Add Tiles action cards contain 1-starred tile per row.
- Lock and key letter tile pairs always consist of a vowel and a consonant.
- Letter tiles are randomly generated for each game, and so are assignments for tiles marked with stars, zamki, and keys
The basic strategy for eliminating all starred, lock, and key tiles is to try to use at least one or two of them in every word submission. Lock and key pairs are more difficult to clear, so efforts should be made to clear them first before focusing on starred tiles. Eliminating several lock, klawisz, or starred tiles in a single longer word generally puts you in the best position!
In light of the information above, the following strategy tips apply to untimed levels that include tiles with stars, zamki, and keys:
Letter Prioritization
Try to clear the most difficult letters marked with stars, zamki, and keys as early as possible. The letters that are considered the most difficult will vary depending on cards in the deck, but generally X’s, Z’s, Q’s, J’s, and W’s will be the most difficult. Whereas, some of the least difficult letters include vowels, R’s, T’s, N’s, and S’s.
Restarting The Game
Since letter tiles are randomly generated, the letters on starred, lock, and key tiles will be different in every game. It is a valid strategy to restart the game to refresh the letter tiles if the starting starred, lock, and key letter tiles are judged to be too difficult. This is encouraged and is not considered cheating.
Skipping Cards
Since a starred tile is included in every row of tiles added by an Add Tiles action card, it is important to try to exhaust the Add Tiles action cards as soon as possible to try to get all of the possible starred tiles onto the tile grid early on. Starred tiles added to the tile grid late in the game will be more difficult to clear because word options will be limited to unearned point cards remaining in the deck. The same guidelines covered in the Skipping Cards section above also apply to games with starred, lock, and key tiles, so should also be considered when deciding to skip cards.
Ważna uwaga: Starred tiles added to the tile grid by Add Tiles action cards do not actually need to be cleared unless the Add Tiles action card is triggered. This situation would arise if all of the point cards in the deck are earned before all of the Add Tiles action cards are exhausted. Earning all of the possible point cards immediately ends the game. This outcome may be favorable to avoid risk of more starred tiles being added to the grid late in the game that would be difficult to clear with remaining cards.
