How to fix (and earn) the broken achievement, Splash Damage.
Wstęp
In at least the last few versions of Out of Ammo(Czerwiec 29, 2020 release and previous), the “Splash Damage” achievement has been broken. But as you can see in the global achievements for this game, roughly 2% of people have been able to earn it. That means it was working at some point in time. And that’s the key to fixing this achievement. We must roll back the code to the version where it was working. Luckily for you, I have done all the trial and error to figure out which version of the game is the right one!
Before Going Further, Backup Your Saves
Before doing anything in this guide, it is probably a good idea to backup your saves. Jak wspomniano powyżej, we are rolling back to an older version, and there’s no telling what an older version of the game will do to your newer saves. There’s a risk that it might corrupt them. Lucky for you I have also made a guide for backing up your saves(hey, so much luck for you today!).
Kroki
- Right click on the Out of Ammo game in your library, następnie wybierz: Properties -> Betas -> “aktualizacja 0.8 – seventh update released”. Steam will now install this older version of Out of Ammo where the achievement still worked.
- Start the game and select the beach defense mission.
- Place a tower right next to the helipad. You want it to have a good view of the slope but not too close so that it becomes a primary target for the enemy. Tak:
- Put a rocket soldier in that tower.
- Place the rest of the bunkers wherever you wish.
- Fight through the enemy waves. It will take several waves before the enemies are numerous and dense enough to take out five at once. Just keep taking them out with your rocket soldier in your tower until you get it.
Note that the text on the achievement isn’t accurate. It states that you must take out three enemies with one rocket, but it’s more like five. Eventually the right moment will come and the enemies will all bunch up and you can blast them. You should get the achievement immediately once this occurs.
Getting back to the current version
Once you have the achievement, you will likely want to get back on the current version. Exit the game, then go back into the “Betas” screen like mentioned above, and change it back to “nic”. Steam will then download and install the current version.
You will probably also want to restore the backup of your saves I suggested that you make earlier, just in case the old beta corrupted the save somehow.
Addendum: Broken Versions
Here’s some additional information on my process and the non-working versions I tried. It probably won’t interest most people.
Początkowo, I tried rolling back via the Steam console. Using that method you must provide manifest IDs referenced from Steam DB(you can find guides online for that, so I won’t rehash that process here). For those that are familiar with that process here are those manifests where I confirmed that the achievement does not work(at least not according to my attempts):
After trying all of those and failing, I decided to check out the betas, and luckily the first one I tried worked (v0.8).
