Includes weapons and their evolutions, a tier list, and my personal thoughts on each item. The tier list and my personal thoughts are subjective and are my thoughts only. Take everything I say with a grain of salt.
Invoering
This is a guide over-viewing all of the current weapons and items added to the game. Things may change over time, so check to see if this guide is up-to-date.
Please note that everything I say other than actual statistics is my opinion. I have played a lot of the game thus far and have enjoyed it thoroughly, but I may be wrong about certain things at the end of the day. Feel free to form your own thoughts and opinions, and at the end of the day, go ahead and try all the weapons. They’re all fun and can be useful in their own unique ways!
Acronyms I use frequently:
- CC = Crowd Control (Dealing with crowds of enemies)
- DPS = Damage Per Second
- AoE = Area of Effect (usually in reference to an attack)
Weapon Tier List
Tier S
Magic Wand is hands down my top pick for best weapon in the game. Not only is it one of the best items to start off with, but it also scales amazingly, with the extra pierce and zero delay giving it a lot of CC capabilities. The only lackluster thing about it is the somewhat low damage output when it comes to the last 5 minutes or so, but overall I think everything else about it makes it an easy S-tier.
Runetracer is my other S-tier spot. It starts off as a quite decent weapon, but the magic is that it does not rely on any single accessory, and can do lots of CC damage by itself. I’ve had this be my highest DPS weapon sometimes, and can easily carve through any horde of enemies. Het beste deel is, Runetracer scales with basically any item, meaning there’s never really a bad time to slap in a Runetracer.
Tier A
The knives are a solid choice for most runs. They’re a really good starting weapon, and continue to stay good up until the 25 minute mark. Zelfs dan, the sheer amount of DPS they can spit out in a single direction is great. The issue is the fact that it’s only a single direction that this death laser is shooting at. The entire time you’re shooting, only about 3/4ths of your surroundings is covered. This is something that the Magic Wand does not struggle with, which overall makes this feel like a worse Magic Wand. Niet alleen dat, but its required item to evolve – the Bracers – aren’t amazing with everything. In terms of late-game (over 25 minutes or so), the only real use this has is to blitz down bosses. But even then, at the 28-29 minute mark it’s literally alleen bosses. Algemeen, I think it sits comfortably at an A-Rank.
Fire Wand in its evolved state has by far the highest DPS output of any weapon. I’ve never had any weapon top it when it’s in use. It can chew through massive hordes like nothing, it can melt bosses easily and deals a monstrous 100-150 damage on a bad day. Even the required item to evolve it is great, as it will just boost the damage output of all of your weapons. The only things holding this back from S-Rank however, is that it’s inconsistent and has a very mediocre early-game. I’ve only ever had Fire Wand be useful to me before its evolved state to kill bosses, and that’s if it would even hit it in the first place. Sometimes there will be a horde of enemies to my left, and yet the fire wand will shoot at something to my right. However the sheer, raw damage this can output places it in A-Rank.
Santa Water has the potential to be one of the best CC weapons there is. If you slap on a Candelabrador, Spellbinder, Empty Tome and maybe even a Duplicator, this can easily keep a whole boss rush off you. But the exact issue is that you need a lot of items to unlock this weapons full potential. The only thing keeping this off B-Tier is the fact that it still has good potential for earlier on, and even without getting lots of upgrades for it can still do lots of work.
King Bible is probably one of my personal favourites to grab. It has an okay beginning, but once you really start to level it up it becomes extremely powerful. It’s mid-game capability to keep everything off you other than bosses is excellent. The only thing keeping this from S-Tier is the fact that it can fall off very quickly once you hit the 26-28 minute mark, as there are too much enemies for it to really keep up with. You also need a few items preferably to really get the meat grinder going, such as Duplicator and Bracers. Dit, and the fact that Spellbinder is a good but not great item, marks this as A-Tier.
Tier B
The whip is a great early game weapon. It has infinite pierce, has a decent range and can do pretty good damage for early-game. Its evolved form is pretty good as well, especially with you being able to heal 8 HP per attack, however the issue is its lack of damage. Not only does the evolved whip do quite poor damage, it also loses its extra projectile from the 2nd upgrade, meaning without any bonuses to projectiles you’ll only have one whip. Its evolved form is also reliant on dealing critical damage, which it doesn’t even do that much of considering its attack speed; at least in comparison to other weapons there are out there. And to end it off, the item you need for it is pretty bad. Algemeen, I think Whip deserves B-Rank and nothing more. It has CC capabilities, a good early-game and that’s about it.
Although a pretty good starting weapon, my biggest gripe with the Cross is that it can sometimes be inconsistent. The way it aims can be a little detrimental, as it fires towards the closest enemy then flings itself backwards. Unless you try to “aim” your cross to be backwards, chances are it won’t go exactly where you are. Its bigger issue arises though when you evolve it. It’s functionally the same, however it comes out a bit slower and is a bit bigger. It’s also shaped like a stick, and the way it rotates can either mean it’ll wipe 50 vijanden, or maybe 10. Niet alleen dit, but its main source of damage is also reliant on critical hits. It’s biggest redeeming factor though is the fact that the damage it can deal, especially when it crits is very large. Easily hitting 200+ on a crit, more than anything else other than nukes. I’d say for now it’s comfortable at B-Tier.
Easily my favourite weapon. The amount of fun and damage you can deal with it is addicting, however the biggest issue with it is that it requires a LOT of work to get it to its fullest potential. To really get the most out of it, you need a high level lightning ring, a candelabrador, an empty tome and a duplicator. This is the same for a few other weapons, but the key difference is that the lightning ring is a late bloomer weapon. Betekenis, it’s damage and overall utility early-game is pitiful. If it wasn’t for this single issue, it would be at A-Tier.
The evolved axe is very good, however what’s keeping it in B-Tier is the fact that everything before the evolved form is very poor. Its aim directory is upwards and then comes down, making it awkward to actually hit enemies. It doesn’t really pierce that much to begin with, has a rather slow rate of fire and is kind of small in practice. The evolved axe remedies all of these issues other than the rate of fire, but that’s fine. Very good CC and DPS, but a very poor pre-evolved stage.
The bone is very funny. Until it’s maxed, you’re about 25 minutes into your run and starting to get swarmed, it’s honestly an extremely mediocre weapon. Starting off it has terrible damage, terrible accuracy and is a pain to even hit anything. Echter, during the last stretch of your run, the bone can seriously carry your run; especially if you are playing as Mortaccio. The amount of bones being shot out, the fact that they do 100 damage and can ricochet off enemies, AND doesn’t despawn for quite a long period of time can make it a serious help during the last minutes. This would easily go into A-Tier, maybe even S-Tier if its utility was better during the earlier parts of the game, but honestly I’m fine with it sitting in B-Tier.
Tier C
My biggest annoyance with Peachone and Ebony Wings is that they are extremely inconsistent. They have the potential to do a large amount of DPS. They have the potential to mow through a horde. But the issue is you need a lot of items and levels to do so, and even when you get to that point they’ll probably miss half the time anyways. Their reach is far away from you, their hit zone does not scale with speed (voor zover ik weet, anyways), and their barrage doesn’t really last that long anyways. I really hope they get buffed as time goes on.
Garlic is amazing during the early-game, but easily falls off once you hit 20 minutes or so. Op dat moment, the enemy health starts to scale higher than the ~20 damage that your garlic will be doing, and it will easily go through the stench. I love it, but it kind of sucks.
I doubted Clock Lancet for a while, and honestly it impressed me a good amount. It can provide a lot of safe time and a momentary clearing for you to take a breather, or just try and get some extra DPS in without getting attacked. My issue with it though is the fact that you’re still sacrificing damage for a safety net. If you had enough DPS to handle what the game is throwing at you, you wouldn’t need the safety net at all.
Tier D
The same issues from the Clock Lancet applies here, but instead of a very good, almost permanent up-time safe zone that can also act as a window for extra DPS, you get a shield that can block incoming damage here and there if you haven’t taken a lot. Eerlijk gezegd, this is never really worth getting unless you plan on doing a super fat build, or you plan on fighting the reaper or something. The possible damage you’re sacrificing just to have a little barrier that can take a few hits is far from a good trade.
Tier F
Hear me out, an insta-kill weapon that can activate very rarely. It’ll take up one of your important, valuable weapon slots you need for dealing lots of damage. You need lots of luck and lots of cooldown to really make this good. What’s the catch?
Goed, imagine you’re attacking two bosses at the same time. You have poor DPS, because instead of a nice Magic Wand or some Knives, you got the Pentagram. Dan BOOM, the Pentagram pops. Everything is dead, problem solved..?
Goed, all the EXP you would have gotten not only from the boss, but the 300 enemies around you is gone. Ook, the two chests the bosses could have possibly dropped is gone. That full minute or two of you circling the bosses, trying to deal as much damage as you can with your handicapped load-out is now down the drain.
I get there are upgrades to mitigate dit, but honestly I can never see this as anything but a handicap. Zodra je het snapt, you’re going to have a lot of trouble getting XP and chests, praying that your luck isn’t “Goed” and smites it all away from you. Easily, hands down, no questions asked, the worst weapon in the game.
