This quest will be immediately start after Yuffie meets with the members of Avalanche and you spoke with Nayo twice. You will meet a fellow Wutai citizen “Old Snapper” (he’s immediately outside the HQ and he’s dressed as a turtle. you can’t miss him) who said there are there are six flyers hidden around the slums of Sector 7. You can find them in any order you want, this was just how I found it. You’ll know a flyer is near when you hear a unique Turtle song near each flyer. I’ve linked to Youtube of each song because it’s pretty well made and a lot of effort was put into each one.
Beloningen
- Magnify Materia
- Achievment: Turtle-Tastic
There is also some free common materia you can miss on your search. (you can go back for it later but just saving you some backtracking).
Flyer #1 – Children’s Playground
Playground – it’s behind some boxes you can knock over and find the flyer.
Flyer #2 – Wedge’s House
This is by Wedge’s house. He’ll be outside with his cats and has little to say. The flyer is attached to a balloon and Yuffi need to climb behind the boxes and throw your weapon at the turtle balloon to pop it and pick it up when it lands in front of the group of kids.
Flyer #3 – Cat Alleyway
this is located in the alleyway Cloud fights the Corneo Thugs in the main game. Yuffie will chase a cat into the alley way where there are now a bunch of them holding similar pieces of paper. The one you’re looking for is an orange cat way in the back. It will hiss at you (like cats do) and you’ll be able to pick up the flyer.
Flyer #4 – Cloud and Tifa’s apartment (Beware of Dog)
This one is located at the apartment building where they both live. this one is a tricky one because there is a guard dog at the top and will bark at you and force a restart if it sees you or you wake it up.
While the dog is napping, sneak behind the boxes keeping note on the dogs varying sleeping patterns. The turtle flyer is on the far right (be careful, there is a bucket and broom underneath it and if you run into it, you’ll have to start over. After you get it, you’ll be able to get to the roof to pick up some materia before you leave.
(had to borrow the below screenshot because I forgot to take a picture of this angle in game due to the fact the dang dog caught me twice prior)
Flyer #5 – Old Factory
Head towards the train station and a guy will flag you down about staying away from the factory because there are monsters. (like that’s going to stop you) head into the factory. The flyer is located in the area where you fought the boss in the main game despite hearing the turtle music throughout the factory. It’s behind some boxes. (if you decide to pick this up last, there is some materia here so pick that up before you leave)
Flyer #6 – Bulletin Board near Train Station/Factory
Easiest for last. Outside of the factory there is a bulletin board where cloud has his first flashback in the beginning. The flyer is underneath a Shinra flyer. Interact with it to reveal and collect it.
Reward Time
Keer terug naar “old Snapper” where you first met him and he’ll do a song and dance that someone had finally won the prize. You will recieve the achievment Turtle-tastic evenals Magnify Materia as a reward and he invites you to his bar when Yuffie is older since she’s only 16 and underage to be at a bar. You’d think being a fellow Wutai he’d cut her some slack but whatever.
Misc Info
For a small side quest there is a lot that went into it. Creating 7 separate songs with varying genres isn’t a small job so they went all out in in that respect. (This is the 7th track)
This is also a reference to a the “Turtle Paradise” unmarked quest in the original Playstation 1 release of the game. 6 flyers were scattered across 3 disks and the entire world and they were all numbered 1 thru 6 and you had to find them in order. if you skipped any or if they were out of order, the quest was over and you cannot fix it unless you load a prior save. If you discovered all 6 in the correct order and then went to the actual Turtle Paradise bar in Wutai (on disk 3) you got a bunch of stat boost items.
Also I want to say that Old Snapper is an homage to Dana Carvey’s turtle character from the movie “Master of Disguise” but it could also just be a coincidence.
