Fall-out 76 – Appalachia Exploration Guide

This is a guide to help vault dwellers learn to tell the time so you can understand it way better and also some things that will help you speed up the process of achieving this challenge.

I have been testing into this challenge quite a bit after all the community is quite clueless on this challenge and seems many people do not know hardly anything about it, so misinformation is flying around the community and am here to put a stop to that, so i will be going into the basic details as well how this challenge really works so everything about this challenge is cleared up.

I have researched quite a bit into this atom challenge but, I will say it now. My research is only total of 7 days with spending 4-6 hours for those 7 days testing. This might not be enough to fully test this challenge so if you find something wrong or something to add be sure to give me the steps to replicate your test to see if its true and i will then happily add your credits to this guild for helping this guild become even better.

Understanding the basics

If this is your first time hearing and finding out about the exploring appalachia for 7600 hours challenge well “Good news everyone” I will tell you how to find this challenge in your list to find it. First duh open up challenges then you must go to the character section of challenges as seen in the photo attached bellow highlighted in green of how to find it.

If its not there good chance you already done this challenge. If you have done this challenge well then you clearly don’t need to read this guild please skip to the final word of the guild or exit it cause there isn’t really much for you unless you just want to learn about it. No where to be seen? Then you might have to go about contacting support to fix it or do a steam verify check on the game.

7600 hours = 316 days and that is if you have spent 24 hours inside the game of every day so overall almost year worth of your life spent. Now it’s very unlikely you are gonna spend 24 hours of each day, come on it’s quite unrealistic for anyone to start the game and do it in 316 dagen. So we might be more looking at a avg completion of this challenge of 2 and half years to get this challenge done or even longer if you really don’t spend a lot of time playing each day or skip days of playing.

It does tick up by 60 mins each after all it only shows you hours, also no its not in game time. That in game clock goes way too fast and if it was the case then you should be getting the challenge done faster then 316 days of playing as every 4 seconds is a minute in game time, so yeah it goes way faster then real world time.

Now to make it clear steam calculates game time as soon as you hit play to when the .exe is no longer running, so steam starts the clock even when the game is in booting stages till it notices the .exe has ended it’s task or when the syncing to the steam cloud has finished.

So it doesn’t matter that you’ve been browsing the atom shop in the menu. Steam will add the time but the challenge will not, so this means if you see you have done say 500 hours recorded on steam, it doesn’t mean the challenge should match that or even come close you will understand why it doesn’t even come close in the inner workings section of this guild as there are things that freeze the clock that i will explain there.

For the clock to count you must be inside the game it self, not going to the custom world that doesn’t do anything for progress with adventure and i don’t know if the PTS counts as i don’t bother with that so i don’t know.

Understanding the inner workings of it

The explore Appalachia in it’s name is not misleading, it seems you must be out in the open world (appalachia) meaning every time you enter a loading zone area it doesn’t seem to count towards the challenge, so stay away from your shelters and mission loaded zones.

De 1 hour doesn’t tick up some times only after a hour has pasted. This might just be bugged and not well known to Bethesda, after all i did say that the community is quite clueless when it comes to this challenge. So this issue might just be slipping under the radar of bugs that should be fixed.

So for a explain if i spent 01:03:01 last time i played the next time i load into the game i might have to wait a whole hour before that 01:03:01 turns into 01:03:02 and well carry’s on ticking away.

AFK-ing does work to a point. Just got to make sure you don’t get kicked or do nothing while you AFK / BRB as it seems if the game finds out you been doing nothing or doing one thing for too long, it will freeze the clock and about 6 mins later you will get the kick message timer for being away too long.

How to be efficient as you can with achieving this

Time to discuss how to benefit aka speed up this challenge so you can achieve this in a shorter time then the avg player who doesn’t understand everything i spoke in this guild would take them.

1. You clearly need to play more like 4-8 hours a day. If you can try to go longer with your playtime. After all more hours spent in the game = faster to achieve. Also don’t skip days try to play every day if you can.

2. Keeping track of your own minutes can help avoid that little bug that i mentioned earlier in this guild, about the game will not record your time, only once a hour has past then it starts to records your time. So if you keep track of your minutes, you could figure out if its bugging sooner then later, so a sever hop could fix the problem, so rather then waste a hour waiting for the game to reboot the clock for you could sever hope and it should fix it self hopeful.

3. Have to put most quests aside. You can still do any that is in the open world like almost all the daily missions and to not go into shelters and if you can avoid fast travelling, due to the loading screen you are freezing your game timer. More fast travelling around = less time ticking for the challenge so try to walk to places if you can/willing.

4. Make sure you’re always doing something, if you stand around it can stop the clock, so make sure your doing something as AFKing too long will freeze your time. I recommend being slight active. What i mean by this is going on a workbench, sleep in a bed or play the piano etc to AFK on as it will give you a bit more time before the clock will freeze up while your away compared to just standing there.

5. If you wanna hop off your PC or need to BRB but, still want the clock ticking longer then what i said in point number 4? Then maybe think of setting up a AFK M at your camp to use.

Dat is het! If you do all 5 you can get this challenge done surely within 1 year and 9 maanden (et) or shorter depending on tip number 1 of how much you spend a day and not skipping days and tip number 5.

I have now shared with you everything i gathered when testing this challage out myself and how to get this challenge done in around 1 year and 9 months of your lifespan (et)
