This guide will show you how to easily make a pedestrian overpass Cities: Skylines II that actually works.
Overzicht
Playing city builders and not liking roads with too many cars can be tough. I’m an optimistic city planner, and I want people to walk more. Soms, they need to cross a busy road that I had to build for deliveries and emergencies. Even though I try my best, many people want to cross that road, which causes traffic problems.
Om dit op te lossen, I built a safe pedestrian bridge since concrete is affordable. Echter, people still don’t use it.
If you’ve faced this issue, I might have a solution. I got inspired by a cool circular ramp design on Reddit, and I wanted to make people actually use it.
How to Build the Bridge
The big challenges are:
- Making sure it gets built
- Avoiding other crossings nearby (not good)
- Staying calm
Let’s begin with the main road. I went with a basic 4-lane arterial road.
Create your main part of the bridge. To achieve the style I want, I extend the support pillars by one zoning square. The bridge should be at least 6.25 meters high to clear the road.
Extend the road one more square using the continuous road tool. Make sure the turn angle is set to 180 graden.
Construct your initial turn and lower it as much as you can, in dit geval, naar 3.75 meter.
Make a 90-degree turn and lower it to 1.25 meter. This step can be a bit tricky, so it’s a good idea to demolish the main span temporarily. We’ll rebuild it without any problems after finishing the ramp.
Nu, go down to the ground level, but don’t connect it to the road just yet!
Let’s rebuild the main span…
Ten slotte, without any guidelines, connect to the sidewalk. Be careful not to create a pelican crossing, as your citizens will use it even if you remove it later with road tools.
This will attract a lot of people.
You can repeat the same process on the other side to make it look symmetrical, or you can mirror it.
Mechanics Speculation
Look at this!
Citizens walking to work.
If you add a pedestrian crossing, they won’t use it. They seem to prefer the shorter route and dislike walking uphill.
Removing the crossing with the tool leads to a lot of jaywalking.
This guy nearly gets hit by a truck.
My guess is that the crossing points still exist, so daring citizens use them.
The only solution I found is to completely rebuild that arterial road. Be careful not to connect any walking paths in a way that creates a crossing. It should work as long as your road is one continuous piece.
