A Warning & Advice!
Before you proceed further in this guide, I need to reiterate that this guide has spoilers and should you have not yet played and finished the game: that you do so first, before reading this guide.
There is a charm to this game that you must first experience by yourself in order to appreciate it in its full value; and I’d rather not ruin it for you if it could be helped at all. Dus, I will keep the spoilers to a minimum, but they will still be present! So if you understand that you will be spoiled and still wish to continue, then so be it! Read on for the rest of this Memories Guide.
Eerste dingen eerst, I need the reader (Jij) to understand 2 things before you attempt to follow-along with this guide. You will need to
1) Read the guide’s section(S) entirely before you proceed with the story progression for that Day. The reason for this, is so that you understand where and when to go somewhere for the specific memory… along with the equally important:
2) If you happen to miss a specific memory, chances are you will need to restart the game with a new save. Some memories are only available once at a specific time. So if you miss them; you’ve missed them forever. Which is why it’s ideal for you to follow the advice in (1) to read the section first for a “refresher” en “idea” on how to proceed.
Met dat gezegd wordende, here’s how the guide will work: I’ll break it down into each Day (1, 2, en 3), and show you where each Memory will be located within each section. At the beginning of the section for the day, I’ll list how many <nieuw> memories will be obtained within the Day, and will show you what your In-Game Memories data should look like after you’ve grabbed the final memory in that day for your reference.
After the initial info you need to know for the Day, I will then go into each specific memory in the order I find them. Do also note, Memories are not found “in volgorde” that they appear in the Memories section in the game. You will have gaps occasionally within your collection, so simply compare the results with the final tally at the end of each section to know if you’ve missed one or not.
Without further text, let’s get into it: Hope this guide helps!
Dag 1 – The Material Sheath
We start the game with Day 1, and out of the 36 total memories: you find fifteen (15) memories in Day 1.
Please note for each memory: some are available to be found multiple times (at different points in the game’s story), and more often only once at a specific point-in-time. I will try to mention which memory is which, Echter; I’m assuming you’re following along to this guide, so I will not mention any more instances of these duplicate memories.
Geheugen #1:
You’ll reach this room shortly after being released by Will in the entryway. After seeing your first “ghostly illusion” just go to the end of the room, and jump up onto the piano to examine your first memory. This memory is stationary throughout the game at this same spot.
Geheugen #2:
Once you leave the previous memory room, the other room to your left opens up. Jump up the shelves past the mortician (giving him a smack on the head as you pass him is optional) and examine the wreath memory. One-time memory.
Geheugen #3:
After entering the second floor, head to your right and jump onto the table shown for the 3rd memory. This memory is stationary throughout the game at this same spot.
Geheugen #4:
This memory is examined after entering Thomas’ Room with Addy and Will for the first time. One-time memory.
Geheugen #5:
Entering the small library for the first time, you’ll examine this memory to proceed with the story. One-time memory, cannot be missed (story-required).
Geheugen #6:
After leaving the 2nd floor, you’ll find Miss Nunez calling out for Will who appears missing. Instead of going up to the 2nd floor, go towards the left into the Dining Hall. At the far end of the room is this piece of furniture with this newspaper memory on top of it. One-time memory, missable.
Geheugen #7:
After the previous memory (#6), you can go up to the 2nd floor now and enter Thomas’ room to continue the story. Examine the toy sword for your 7th memory and the trail to finding Will. One-time memory, cannot be missed (story-required).
Geheugen #8:
After finding Will, and the trio of humans leave the room you’ll find the next memory on top of this dresser next to the phone. I will note, this memory is available once more in Day 2; anders, this memory can be missed both times.
Geheugen #9:
After progressing with the story, you will eventually enter the Study at the far end of the 2nd floor. In this room, Abby and Will engage in conversation and you will chase a spider around the room; opening the hidden compartment in the middle. After Abby drops the Aaru tablet on the floor in their panic, you can examine it yourself. Cannot be missed memory, story-required. Shows up later in Day 2 & 3.
Geheugen #10:
After noticing some sobbing in one of the 2nd floor rooms, you’ll go in to investigate. Jumping onto this table to examine this #10 memory will have a sticky note stuck to you (for story purposes, this one cannot be missed).
Geheugen #11:
This memory is in the same room as #10, but on the next table over. Stationary memory, shows up in later chapters.
Geheugen #12:
After escaping past Lorraine, you’ll enter the next room to eavesdrop on Dawn and Nunez talking about Bernard. Further along, you’ll find the rest of the family sitting on the sofa. During the conversation, Shannon places the #12 memory on the table for you to jump-on and examine. One-time memory, missable.
Geheugen #13:
Progressing past the previous memory, you’ll make your way to the 2nd floor.
Instead of entering the Study, enter the room to the left of it: the library. You’ll see Dawn on her laptop. Benader haar, and wait for Liam’s wife to enter. She’ll invite Dawn for a bottle of wine downstairs, and leaves her laptop. Jump onto the table to examine her laptop for an easter-egg memory! One-time memory, missable.Geheugen #14:
After entering the Study, you’ll dislodge the Zippo lighter from the alligator’s mouth onto the floor so you can examine it. Story-required, cannot be missed.
Geheugen #15:
After much story progression, you’ll take a nap, end up on the outside of the house’s window ledge, and then make your way back in through the Garden’s window. Upon entering and viewing the ghostly illusion, climb up on top of the wood for the last Day 1 memory.
To recount, you should have collected 15 memories in Day 1. Here’s what your in-game Memories should look like after getting the 15th:
Dag 2 – Among Kin
Dag 2 begins with 15 van 36 memories, and you gain 17 new memories during this section. You should have 4 remaining blanks by the last one before proceeding into Day 3.
Geheugen #16:
Geheugen #17:
Geheugen #18:
Upon entering the library on the 2nd floor, you’ll find Addy and 3 memories in the same room. De eerste 2 are books lying close to Addy on the floor and the desk. The 3rd is on the shelf in the back, and must be knocked down onto the desk and examined to proceed. All three memories are one-time instances, met #18 being required for story progression.
Geheugen #19:
Once you’ve progressed further, you’ll start hearing the baby wailing behind closed doors. Before entering any rooms, you’ll find Jonathan’s phone left on one of the tables for you to examine. One-time memory.
Geheugen #20:
From the previous memory (#19), you’ll then enter Thomas’ room in order to proceed with the story; but you’ll have to wait before exiting through the window, to find the 20th memory on the dresser. One-time memory.
Geheugen #21:
You’ll find the next memory after watching the full Toga party sequence. Jump up onto the sofa to examine the memory. Appears later in Day 2 en 3.
Geheugen #22:
After Jonathan and the Lawyer have their secret meeting in the Study, jump onto the desk to examine this next memory. (The one on the left is to proceed with the story, does not count as a memory.) This memory stays here for the rest of the game.
Geheugen #23:
After persuading your way back inside the house with Dawn’s help, you’ll find her mid-game with her comrades. Before interacting with anything else, hover over the table her laptop is on and click the left-option to jump onto it. Examine the paper for the next memory. Shows up once more in Day 3.
Geheugen #24:
After making your way back into the study (after the Alpha crow encounter) and scaring Abby into dropping the stuff she’s rummaging through; you can examine the memory on the floor. One-time memory.
Geheugen #25:
After being guided through the house, you’ll end up with a ghost of Bernard going through a closed door leading outside. Enter the room with Will, and when he sets his toy down, examine it first before moving onwards. One-time memory, missable.
Geheugen #26:
Once the family has left the mansion for the reception, you’ll start to hear a banging sound coming from upstairs (in the study). Make your way up to the 2nd floor, and instead of going to the study, go all the way to the right into the library; grabbing this memory early. Limited-time memory, unavailable once you leave the 2nd floor.
Geheugen #27:
To the left of the Study’s entrance is a table with another limited-time memory. Jump onto the table to examine it.
Geheugen #28:
Making your way to the first floor’s dining room, jump onto the dining table to examine the next memory. One-time memory, missable!
Geheugen #29:
From the previous memory (#28), upon leaving the dining room you’ll find the next memory on top of the table seen above. One-time memory, missable.
Geheugen #30:
After re-entering the house at the Garden area, you’ll find the 30th memory on top of the pile of wood. (You cannot jump onto the pile of wood) One-time memory, missable past a certain point!
Geheugen #31:
After saving Christmas, everyone returns from the Reception. After some family drama, you’ll help escort the children out of the room. Once Addy and Will are safely playing the game, you’ll leave the room and go to the far-left room (Bernard/Lorraine’s room). Jump up onto the bed to examine the 31st memory (and to start tracking Murray’s scent). One-time memory, story-required.
Geheugen #32:
After tracking the scent of Murray to the vent near the coat rack, you’ll enter it to pursue it further. Examine the pile of stuff to find the last memory in Day 2.
=======================
At this point in time, you should have 32 van 36 memories, only missing 4. Here’s what it should look like at this point in time.
Dag 3 – All We Created
Starting out Day 3 on a somber note from Day 2’s events, you have only 4 memories left to collect!
Geheugen #33:
You will proceed fairly far into Day 3 before this memory opens up. After freeing Lorraine from the clutches of the Madame; everyone is shocked and amazed at her being able to get restful sleep once again. Not long after, more story events take place; namely, the decision to sell the house. Proceed further and Will starts to shadow you once again and you’ll use him to open the door with the use of the puddle. Once outside, and more cut-scenes and dialogue take place, Addy will set her phone down so you can finally see what she and her mom were laughing at. Geheugen #33 is a one-time memory.
Geheugen #34:
Upon getting back into the house and making your way up to the study; you’ll intrude on Bernard’s last entry into ‘things he hates in this house.’ Once he sets it back in the drawer, you’ll come face-to-face with a flying insect to which you will chase around the room; ultimately aiding you in your goal of opening the drawer that held the tape.
Examine it first before you start moving with it.Memory #35:
After infiltrating your way into the room with Dawn, you’ll need to find a particular item to trace which box holds the tape inside it. Instead of that, head to the sofa mid-way to your objective to examine the 35th memory (which belongs to Addy).
Geheugen #36:
Your final memory will be flung from the hands of Will once you’ve bested him and shown him who the boss is around here. Examining this story memory will grant you the achievement (as long as you haven’t missed one)! Congratulations~!
Full Memory Collection (& Closing Remarks)
Near the end of the game, you’ll have achieved the collection of all 36 memories. Instead of at the end of Day 3’s section, I decided to show them all here instead.
