This is a guide to all the bosses in Magical Valkyrie Lyristia.
The battle system in this game is complicated, with lots of instant defeat outcomes. Each boss has a decision you have to make, and then there is an optimal strategy to have any real chance to win. If you make the decision wrong you’re pretty much guaranteed to lose. If you adopt the wrong strategy you will only win if you are very lucky (or keep trying a lot of time until you manage to be lucky one time.) Even if you use the right strategy you are not fully guaranteed to win, but the odds are better than 50/50.
Also there are some basics. Let us cover those first.
1 – Each level has 4 book items that permanently boost one of Lyristia’s stats. It’s worth it to always look until you find those because her power builds over time. You don’t want to miss one and then be weak later. I won’t go into where to find them in this guide. Only that there are always 4 books.
2 – Feathers. The types are feather I, feather II, and feather III. The way they appear in game, you are best off fully building one clothing item all the way to the max of its feather tier before you invest any feathers at all in a second item. Realistically you can only cap out two of the five clothing items in one play through.
3 – Nearly all enemies can grapple Lyristia. If she doesn’t break free after a certain number of rounds, they will violate her and she will lose the fight. The only guaranteed escape is “Stia Burst” to break free, so you always want to carry some energy fragments with her at all times. In most cases, you want to use it if she hasn’t gotten free after two rounds of being grappled. Use it by the 2nd round to be safe.
4. – You can replay the fight with any boss you have beaten in her recollection program on her computer.
Now to the actual bosses.
First Boss battle is “Fakker Storm” – This one is very easy. Nearly impossible to lose.
Decision: Don’t enter the building until you have found and eliminated all three ambush squads.
Strategy: Just counter until she gets up to 100 magic, then Lyr Tornado.
Second Boss: Fakker Subcommander – very hard to beat without using strategy
Decision: Rush in. If you wait then he’ll have too many reinforcements.
Strategy: He starts the fight with one group of henchmen. You must make sure he ends every round with zero henchmen. He he has even one henchman at the end of the round, he will summon another and they’ll attack Lyristia with a combined assault that does a lot of damage and takes her shield down several notches.
So if he has one henchmen at the start of the round, use Rush to kill it. He may or may not summon another. If he does then next round you’ll have to rush that one too, so you always end the round with him having no henchmen (even though this means Lyristia will not be gaining magic.)
Sooner or later he’ll go a full round without summing any henchmen, and you’ll start a round with him being alone. Use Smash Kick on these rounds.
Once you get up to 60 magic, and if he’s all alone at the start of the round, now use Lyr step. The battle is basically already over once you manage that.
From here, any time he has a henchman you can just use two normal punches to kill them, so no need to use Rush anymore.
Once you reach 100 magic, if the Subcommander has no henchmen at the start of the round, finish him with Lyr Tornado. (If he has any henchmen the Tornado will hit them instead of him, so kill them first.)
Third Boss: Commander
Decision: Submit. If you submit, Lyristia’s friend will punch him and run away so he doesn’t have a hostage. If you don’t, then Lyristia pretty much automatically loses.
Strategy : This one has room for creativity. Main thing is: Keep enough EP around for Lyristia to be able to use Burst to escape the Commander’s grapples.
The two henchmen are normal henchmen, so Counter will take them down in two rounds. He doesn’t summon any additional help like the other guy.
The commander himself is susceptible to Smash Kick’s stun, so once he’s alone just Smash kick him until you reach 100 magic, then Lyr Tornado to finish him off.
Fourth Boss : Brosh
No decisions this time.
His tongue grapple is the biggest issue. Just use normal punches. Save all your EP for Stia Bursts. Each time his tongue grapple hits you can safely attempt to break free normally the first round at 30% success. If you wait until second round it goes up to 45%. If you try and fail a second round he will violate Lyristia, but you will still get a chance to use Stia burst the third round. Always use Stia Burst if you failed to break free the first two rounds, though!
Bring energy fragments.. If, after breaking free, you’re not still very near full EP, use one immediately after breaking free, because Brosh can use his tongue grapple immediately the next round after you break free. So you can get grappled multiple consecutive times.
Apart from that grapple, in every other respect he is pretty easy. If you use Lyr Step and then he grapples you, it will go away, so you’re best off not bothering with Lyr Step. Just wait for 100 magic and use Lyr Tornado to finish the fight as soon as you get there.
Fifth Boss: Duschlong.
No decisions, except when he tries to grapple
Whenever he attempts to grapple he either will attempt to “grab” or “tackle”.
You get the options “Go for a Counter”, “Push Back”, or “Dodge.
“Go for a Counter” is never the right choice.
“Push Back” is for if he goes for a “grab”
“Dodge” is for if he goes for a “tackle”.
If you choose the right choice, all of his grapples will fail.
Final Boss: Samuraider
Counter doesn’t work on him. Smash Kick doesn’t stun him.
But most importantly : Don’t use Lyr Tornado!!! You automatically lose if you use it.
Just fight him the long, drawn out way. You can use Lyr Slash, and Lyr Step, and when you don’t have enough magic just normal punch or use Rush.
He has a lot of HP but he doesn’t grapple. Just has several multiple hit attacks, so bring some extra barrier Crystals.
