The pond will allow you to pickup water with a pot, and boil it above a fire. Once you’ve found a nice spot for your base.

If you cannot do this before night I advice you to build a temporary shelter just for the night. Building a fire at night is not the greatest idea. If you have already found the yacht which is located somewhere near the plane crash, and on the coastline of the island. There is a bed you can use to save your game and sleep.
