How to set up a sundial, mark the cardinal directions, and follow the stars in Valheim without a map to always know where you are going in general!
Sundial Setup
A sundial is something you’ll desire and absolutely need. Find a nice, wide region free of trees and start flattening it to create a sizable circle using wood beams. The circle on this sundial is what you desire, however it is little more completed. arrange one beam, spin it once, and then arrange the next beams to complete the circuit.
To make the post centrally located, you can utilize freehand drawing and snapping techniques. It’s time to wait for sunrise and sunset now that the basic setup has been completed.
Mark the locations for sunset and dawn on the dial’s edge. For East and West, the vertical posts serve as a rough estimate. East is where the sun rises, and west is where the sun sets.
Do the North, 東, 南, and West quadrants in equal groups of four now. On my sundial, I individually construct a larger arrow for North and designate it with an N. now that we are aware of the cardinal directions!
Sundial and Stars Tracking Setup
We are aware of the cardinal directions now that we have a good, functional sundial. By observing the sun and moon in the sky, we can roughly determine which way is east and which way is west. It’s important to become familiar with them and how they move. Another method of determining our location is by using the stars. The sun and moon travel in one direction, while the stars move in another. On the horizon, they are continuously spinning. To track the time of day using the compass directions, I utilized North as a Noon/Midnight marker and used the sunrise and sunset as markers on my sundial.
The stars have a 4-day repeating cycle, according to extensive observation and note-taking.
I started following this particular constellation. At dawn, I caught it facing due west and started taking notes. I kept tabs on their whereabouts over the course of several days and recorded each time of day.
The time of day and position of the constellation shown above are shown below.
日 1
- Sunrise – 西
- 正午 – 北
- Sunset – 東
- 夜中 – South East
I was already aware that something was strange, but the pattern was unclear.
日 2
- Sunrise – 南
- 正午 – 西
- Sunset – 北
- 夜中 – North East
日 3
- Sunrise – 東
- 正午 – 南
- Sunset – 西
- 夜中 – North West
日 4
- Sunrise – 北
- 正午 – 東
- Sunset – 南
- 夜中 – South West
And on day 5, when the sun rises in the east and the constellation in the west, the cycle starts all over again.
When the sun rises, noon, and sets, the stars remain in the cardinal directions. The stars only migrate a quarter of the way across the sky from Sunset to Sunrise, landing in the NE, SE, サウスウェールズ州, or NW at Midnight. したがって, the constellation will be in the west at sunrise the following day if it is in the north at sunrise. It will be in the South at sunrise the next day. At sunrise the following day, it will be in the east, and on the fifth day, it will be back in the north to begin the cycle once more.
Without a sundial, knowing this, studying it, and becoming comfortable with the pattern will allow you to determine your directions at any time of day (unless it’s foggy or storming) without one, which would be a great benefit when navigating the seas. You can master navigating without a map with the assistance of this knowledge and other methods. I hope someone can use the knowledge from this interesting experiment!
