In the update on December 18, 2023, Milestone made a change to the game. They added something called Epic Online Services (EOS) to make it possible for players to join parties with friends on different gaming platforms. But don’t worry if you’re someone who likes playing alone and doesn’t need this feature. The good news is, you can turn off EOS in the game settings. Even if you do that, you can still play multiplayer with people on other platforms, just like you could when the game first came out!
How to Disable Epic Online Services
Before anything else, if Epic Online Services (EOS) was already added to the game or any other game, you should uninstall it using your preferred method. After that, follow these steps:
- Open the game’s local files.
- In the hotwheels2.ini file, find the line that says NoOperation=0 and change it to NoOperation=1.
Now, go to the “Installers” folder and rename the following files:
- EOSBootstrapper.exe to EOSBootstrapper.bak
- EOSBootstrapperTool.exe to EOSBootstrapperTool.bak
- EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe to EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.bak
And that’s all you need to do!
Note: Remember that you might have to repeat these steps every time the game gets an update, as Steam updates also check the integrity of the game files.
