Thought rogue was simple? Equivocado! While Hacker has taken its’ place as the tryhard dodge deck, Rogue is still better players who don’t need the CC due to its’ unique synergy with jokers and ability to open up additional build options with Killer Instinct.
Why would I ever use Rogue over Hacker?
«Flog, you can’t be serious. Hacker gives you more dodge, cicatrización, and crowd control. Why use Rogue at all?»
You might be expecting me to make you feel very stupid, but you’re honestly (principalmente) bien. Hacker is better on DSOD because of the sustain and utility it gives you. Sin embargo, on every other difficulty (and even Solo No AI DSOD!) Rogue is the better choice for a few reasons.
- Rogue shreds Dozers and Shields faster and easier than any other perk deck in the game.
- Rogue is more consistent and relies on RNG less than its’ counterpart.
- Rogue has special synergy with Jokers and specific weapon types.
- Rogue has an optional, high-complexity way to abuse its’ targeting mechanic for Solo No AI runs.
En breve, Rogue is a more consistent, simplified, and offense-focused variant of Hacker. It’s better in certain scenarios and worse in others, but in general it’s personal choice.
Targeting Mechanics
A lot of people view Rogue and Optical Illusions as a «Selfish» elección, because if you’re targeted less, your team is targeted more, bien? You aren’t eating your fair share of damage, you’re shirking heat off onto your teammates, and getting them killed faster.
Most people think, logically, that if the person next to you is 15% less likely to be shot, the people who are shooting at you both are more likely to shoot at you. Desafortunadamente, that’s complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and Payday 2’s targeting is a lot stupider than that.
Payday 2’s targeting system works in an incredibly convoluted and stupid way. Players are assigned a value of 6 while a cop can see them, and performing certain actions, which are listed below, will subtract from your value. Cops will SIEMPRE attack the person with the lowest value, no matter what they’re doing.
The actions that subtract from your value are as follows;
- If you are within 15m of a cop, your BASE value is reduced to 4.
- If you are within 5m of a cop, your BASE value is reduced to 2.
- If you damage a cop, your value is reduced by 2 para 5 artículos de segunda clase.
- If a cop hears you fire a weapon, your value is reduced by 1 para 3.5 artículos de segunda clase.
- When a cop targets you, your value is reduced by 3 para 4 artículos de segunda clase.
Entonces, where does Elusive and Optical Illusions come into play?
Su «chance to be targeted» es, in actuality, a modifier in the distance and time calculations that cops will use to target you.
Optical Illusions drops your «Target Rate» a 0.65, while Elusive drops it to 0.85. This stacks, entonces 0.65 X 0.85 = 0.5525. Entonces,
- If you are within ~8.25m of a cop, your BASE value is reduced to 4.
- If you are within ~2.6m of a cop, your BASE value is reduced to 2.
- If you damage a cop, your value is reduced by 2 for ~2.6 seconds.
- If a cop hears you fire a weapon, your value is reduced by 1 for ~1.85 seconds.
- When a cop targets you, your value is reduced by 3 for ~2.15 seconds.
- When you are tied priority with a nearby ally, the Cop will just shoot the one closest to themselves.
The thing that makes this important is that
THERE IS NO RNG INVOLVED.If you are standing next to your ally, and you are both 5m away from a Dozer, it will attack your teammate EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
If you and your teammate are both 16m away from a Dozer, It will attack both of you equally.
If you run out into the open, and your teammate comes out behind you, you will be attacked by every single enemy for 2.15 artículos de segunda clase. Entonces, every cop within 15m of you will attack your teammate, and every cop outside of that range will continue attacking you.
Oh, and as a final bullet point – Jokers have a «Target Rate» de 0.5 – even lower than your own.
Entiendo?
…bueno. How is this useful, exactamente?
En general, you should stick near your teammates and use silenced weapons when you’re abusing targeting.
Sin embargo, the real reason you want to know this is because of jokers. You might be wondering how they could possibly be useful if you have a higher target rate than them, bien?
Pay attention to the last bullet point –
«When a cop targets you, your value is reduced by 3 para 4 artículos de segunda clase.»
For your jokers, eso es 2 segundo, and for you, that’s around 2.15 artículos de segunda clase. Ahora, add Confident Aced into the mix. You have two jokers that can «Ciclo» prioridad, as long as they are positioned towards the cops. If you have no cover, you can just sit a few feet behind your jokers, and you will NEVER get shot from that direction – only your jokers.
Optical Illusions isn’t enough to keep you entirely safe – you’d have to be a few meters away from your Jokers or risk getting your Value lowered, sin embargo, with both, you can position yourself right behind them and become functionally invincible against most fire.
Además, you’re functionally immune to being targeted for more than 2.15 artículos de segunda clase – your weapons are silenced, and your convert’s weapons aren’t. As soon as that 2.15 second duration is up, the cops will immediately go back to shooting your converts if you’re standing next to them.
You can also use this in multiplayer. You become the ultimate objective taker, being able to do lengthy actions such as lockpicking or drill-sitting in relative safety, even on the highest difficulty.
TL:DR:
Convert two Maximum Force Responders and stand behind them for makeshift cover that you can take with you anywhere – laugh your way through Solo No AI DSOD.
Just give me a Build!
Bueno, bien, jesus. But not because you told me to.
Esta construcción uses Silenced, Akimbo Tatonkas and crit to shred specials and stay safe doing so with Jokers.
Para armas, usar;
Akimbo Tatonkas
- The Bigger the Better Suppressor
- Accuracy Boost
- Compact Laser Module
- AK Rubber Grip
5/7 AP Pistol
- TiN Treated Barrel
- Flash Hider

(If you’re wondering why all the 5/7 AP Pistol users out there use flash hider, it’s because it breaks the 127.7 HP breakpoint to one-shot headshot shields through their shield.)
Take First Aid Kits, Concussion Grenades, and the Buzzer/Electric Brass Knuckles for easy converts. Wear a suit, if that wasn’t obvious. If you aren’t playing on DSOD, swap out Hostage Taker and Nine Lives Aced for Low Blow Aced.
This build is you best «I want to killwhore in pubs, and I don’t care about being scummy with the priority system I just learned about!» configuración. Have fun with it.
