This guide presents my test results of every property of powered and un-powered bearings in vanilla Scrap Mechanic. This also contains the instructions to build a player launcher of epic proportions.
Unit Description
In Scrap Mechanic, there are fundamental units of physics. Power values below are labeled using Roman Numerals, which are very easy to understand because of Minecraft. I use metric prefixes to shorten the length of most values, and the equivalencies will be shown below. The main units used in this guide are:
- R – Angular speed in rotations per minute (short for RPM).
- T – Basic torque. Distance is not in the unit because bearings do not generate torque from a distance. 1 Smart engine power is equal to 1T.
- S – Time in seconds. To save my life, I only included the time it takes for controllers/seats to complete their task because those remain constant no matter how many degrees it is tasked to.
1T = 0.1dT = 0.001kT
Gas Engine
Gas engines, used for almost every transport vehicle, are the best torque-producers in the vanilla Scrap Mechanic. Sie sind 7 times as strong as electric engines at maximum power (contrary to ScrapMans beliefs). I consider them the best engines in the game, but they require fuel in Survival Mode. They can adjust their torque but only have 1 maximum speed.

Electric Engine
Electric engines are almost gas engine opposite. They produce a constant torque and can adjust their speed, unlike the gas engines. Their limited use and type of fuel put them in a niche of tanks, Bergleute, and motorcycles.

Regler
Controllers are popular because of their net-0 fuel usage while making good torque. Often used in survival, their purpose in creative is to create precise moving parts for making animated or transforming creations while being strong. Unlike both regular engines, the time to complete functions is adjustable, while torque remains constant.

OP Launcher
Controllers have a very special property that no other powered bearings possess, and it may be patched in the future. They can be „wound up“ by exceeding its torque and letting it go releases all the angular energy inputted into the bearing. Gas engines are more powerful than controllers, so they can be wound up by them. Below are screenshots that show the steps to build a launcher like this.
Schritt 1. Build an appropriate frame to harness the launcher. It should resemble a slingshot. Always weld this to the ground before using.
Schritt 2. Add the bearings and connect them using a 3x1x1 pipe. It should connect on or off of a lift.
Schritt 3. Connect a controller to one end, und eine Ebene 5 gas engine to the next bearing. Connect the engine to a switch, then set the engine to maximum power.
Schritt 4. Dies ist optional, but you can set a timer or connect a gas canister to the engine.
Schritt 5. Disconnecting the engine bearing releases the controller. Using R*s*2.618, you can figure out the launch speed with the pipe piece. Use this formula R*s/1.2 for finding the RPM of the released launcher.
WARNUNG: This launcher is more than powerful enough to delete your world from below your feet, so do that on a throwaway world, or just don’t wind up the launcher too much.
Tipps: You can use this as an infallible raid defense. One gasoline is enough to launch you out of this world, Also pass auf.
