This guide lays out a basic base design for surviving brutal and obtaining the Amish paradise achievement along with it.
The Basic Base Design
The exact way your base looks really isn’t important, all that matters is that it was some basic key elements.
I have seen another guide on base design, which puts the cannons on one side, but in my opinion, having openings on two sides is better, especially on brutal. This is because of the fact that at the beginning of the game, you do not have access to gatling laser turrets, or the laser gun, this means that both you, and your turrets can only hit the targets in front, so its better to split the enemies in half, and only have to face the enemies on one side.
The base design in the picture is quite advanced, and you won’t have all of the materials, but what I suggest at the beginning of the game is to have the same amount of gatling turrets (at first not laser ones), and to only add the rotating turrets in front of the gatling turrets once you get the heavy turrets. The holes for the repair turrets don’t have to look that way either, but I placed them that way on the left so that animals don’t try to dig from the top, and that way on the right, so it was symmetrical.
But basically, you only need to follow these tips:
- Split enemies onto 2 Seiten.
- Utilize the gatling turrets‘ range by placing the exit holes of the base as far away as possible.
- Place areas for repair turrets above, and below all of the turrets.
- Try to get piercing guns like the laser gun, and the laser gatling turrets as soon as possible, and the ceiling-mounted death thingies, the ones that pulse purple.
- The turrets in the center [the rotating ones] are technically completely useless, but in the case of some animal getting through, they can help you kill them.
The Rocket Base Design
The rocket base is exactly the same, but with a vertical hole.
the tips for this one are:
- get some particle turrets to guard the top hole
- get some healing turrets to heal the particle turrets
- make sure your rocket isn’t too high, because you could get shot and die, or you might change the animal pathing but make sure it’s not too low as animals will dig from the bottom.
- you can use healing potions, and you’re miniaturized while in the rocket, allowing you to heal yourself, and heal other turrets by equipping your miniaturizor and left-clicking on things that are breaking in your vicinity
Progression
I basically wasted the first day as I spent it removing plants, what I like to do, is to remove all orange trees and yellow bushes. They ironically reproduce and spread the fastest, so they will quickly remove all other plants on your planet.
The reason I keep the blue bushes, and yellow trees, is because they are both used to make potions:
- blue bush – healing potion
- yellow tree seed – precision potion
I should have instead spent the first day digging a tunnel through the spawn area, as right under the crashed rocket, the terrain is the steepest, this would have allowed me to set up some more turrets and to struggle less through the first night
