This is a guide clarifying the current process on how to create, share, add and remove community translation to the game.
General Information
I see there is a lot of interest in creating community translations for languages that we don’t have in the game yet. I want to provide some details to help in your endeavor, but also would like to clarify some things from our end as developers.
We do not currently have plans to add further languages to the game, but we have discussed adding Japanese and Portuguese. One day an official translation for this language or others might be done. For legal reasons, we will have to do our own from scratch and will not use your translations in the official game release.
Eventually, we would like to add steam workshops tools directly to the game so that translations (and potentially other mods) can be shared this way directly. It is a lot of work for us to add those tools so we will maybe do it after release.
في هذا الدليل, I will detail how to use the translation file, suggest how to share it, and detail how users can install or remove it.
How to Create a Translation
The game uses directly a .csv file for all the languages in the game.
The general file of the game can be found at this location directly in Steam’s game folder: \Terraformers\Terraformers_Data\StreamingAssets\localisation_data.csv
You can import this data in a spreadsheet, delete all other languages than English, add a language name to the column next to English and start translating.
To test your translation, you can save the document as a CSV file as “localisation_data.csv”. It is very important that you keep that name. أيضًا, it is very important that you have the “keys” column, ال “إنجليزي” column, and then the column of your language. Without the key column or the English column, the game will not find your language. It is also important that the file is saved as a CSV using commas for separation and that it is encoded in utf-8.
Directly in Steam’s game folder \Terraformers\ you should find a folder called CommunityTranslations. في هذا المجلد, you can create your own folder, give it the name you want and add your translation file to the folder. So something like: \Terraformers\CommunityTranslations\MyMod\localisation_data.csv
When you re-launch the game you will see your translation in the dropdown of the setting as “لغة – MyMod”. Any other file in the folder will be ignored, but you can add a readme or credit file if you wish.
If there are missing translations the game will default to English for these keys so even a partial translation should work.
In case there is an update, you can compare the difference between the English text in your translation file to the English text in the new translation file to see what is new or what has changed. This is the reason why keeping the English column is important.
Once you are done I suggest you use Moddb.com to share your translation. You just have to upload your mod folder and tell people to add it to their own CommunityTranslation folder. Here is the link to the games page.
How to Install or Remove a Community Translation
Once you have downloaded a community translation, the process is very simple.
To install, you just have to add the folder containing the translation to the CommunityTranslation folder in the games file. This folder can be found in the steam game files \Terraformers\CommunityTranslations\. You will just end up with something like:
\Terraformers\CommunityTranslations\TranslationMod\localisation_data.csv
To remove it, you just have to delete the folder of the mod. The game will fall back to English if it cannot find the language you had in the settings.
After adding or removing a translation, you need to re-launch the game for it to see the change.
