Crafting everything you need to survive in the Mid-Game of Beyond Contact.
مقدمة
By this point, you should have a base with a Bio Generator, Refinery, Oxygenator, and a Data Laboratory. If you have not acquired these things yet, I can recommend looking up our Early Game Survival Guide which will guide you through those steps.
Mid Game Goals
We now have 3 goals that we will be working on. I have prioritized these in the order that I would address them, but you can decide on how you want to prioritize them. لكن, you may need to prioritize dealing with Rifts if they start to become a nuisance.
1. Sustainable Energy
The first goal is to get reliable energy in your base for consistent oxygen, as well as acquire industrial heating.
2. Making A Farm
The second goal is to get reliable food through a farm.
3. Dealing with Void Rifts
Your third and last goal for Mid Game Survival, is to find a way to deal with Void Rifts and protect your base from them.
Sustainable Energy
There are a few ways to get sustainable energy in your base. The main two are either using a combination of Batteries and Solar Power or using Wind Turbines. We need batteries together with Solar Power to have a way of supplying our buildings with energy during the night. Wind Turbines will provide power during both day and night, but their power is limited based on their proximity to strong winds.
لهذا الدليل, we will be using Wind Turbines.
A pro tip for creating your power grid is to build your structures against the walls of your base which will create a conductive flow and remove the need for crafting conduits, saving you the required materials, as well as valuable floor space.
Research Required
- Power Preservation.
To start unlocking Solar Power and Wind Turbines we will be researching Power Preservation. This will teach us the Battery Bank schematic. - Solar Power.
This will teach us the Solar Power schematic and unlock the Wind Energy schematic to be able to craft Wind Turbines. - Wind Energy.
To be able to craft Wind Turbines for easy energy all day around. - Industrial Heating.
Crafting Industrial heating will give us heating during the night without needing a Thermo Stick. - Basic Defence Parameter.
This will protect our structures from enemies and can serve as conductive wires for your base.
For some of these, you will need Urchin Carapace. These will drop from either Plaspods or Urchins. To find these I can recommend looking in either Overgrown Wildlands or Badlands Biomes.
Making A Farm
To be able to produce enough food to survive on Ketern I can recommend crafting a farm protected by some Basic Defense Parameters. I can also recommend adding some Tamber Flowers to your farm so you won’t need to run around for those later on.
Research Required
- Excavation Equipment.
We research shovels to be able to dig up Tamber and Kepple Plants and place them on our farm. We will also need shovels to get Rich Soil for fertilizing our farm and upgrading the plants. - Basic Defense Parameter.
Some wildlife love to eat our plants. These include Chitterlings eating our Kepple Fruit and Crogs eating our Tamber Flowers. To keep them away from our farm we will create a fence around it. - Food Refinement.
We will research Food Refinement for the Oven schematic so that we can cook our Kepple Fruit. Cooking our food will provide us with better nourishment and healing results.
Materials To Gather
Both Tamber Flowers and Kepple Plants can be upgraded twice after being planted. We do this by supplying them with Rich Soil. For this example farm, we will have 8 Kepple Plants and 4 Tamber Flowers, which should be enough to supply you through most of the game.
- 8 x Kepple Plants.
These can be dug up using a LIght Weight Shovel. Kepple fruit will be our main food source throughout the game. - 4 x Tamber Flowers.
These can be dug up the same way as Kepple plants and both Kepple Plants and Tamber Flowers can be found in Open Plains, Murky Depths, Overgrown Wildlands, and Wildlands - 36 x Rich Soil.
Grab a shovel and look for Soil Mounds. The best place to find these are in Murky Depths, but they can also be found in Fungal Fields and Overgrown Wildlands. You can also find loose bits of Rich Soil where Crogs are living. To use the Rich Soil on a plant, simply drag the Rich Soil from your inventory onto the plant. - 1 x Ember Crystal, 1 x Urchin Carapace, 1 x Sparkstone, 1 x Resin.
These are the materials needed to craft an oven for your base. - Sparkstone, Feron Ore and Tamber.
These are the materials needed to craft basic defenses around your base. How much you need depends on the size of your base.
Building The Farm
Assembling the farm is pretty straightforward once you know how to use Rich Soil.
- Start by placing down Withered Tamber Flowers and Withered Kepple Plants as you see fit.
- Drag and Drop Rich Soil from your inventory onto the Withered Plants to make them grow.
- After they have grown you supply them with another round of Rich Soil to upgrade them. Do this twice.
- While waiting for them to upgrade craft Basic Defense Parameters and place them around your plants with a door to enter.
- Craft your Oven and supply it with power.
You should now be able to supply yourself with sufficient food to survive in your base.
Dealing With Void Rifts
And now to deal with Ketern’s biggest threat. Here I will cover how to close Void Rifts, and also talk about a structure that you can Craft to protect your base from them. For a more In-Depth guide on Void Rifts please check out this guide.
To deal with Void Rifts we will be continuing the Octomian Storyline. To do this head on over to the Octomian Base which should be marked on your map if you’ve followed our Early Game Survival Guide, and have completed the objective “Unexpected Complications” which will lead you to the objective “Unexpected Guests.”
Unexpected Guests
Scan the shield that surrounds the alien base, and discuss your findings with Carl. After doing so he will suggest researching a Force Field Frequency Analysis which you can find in your research interface. After researching this you will be able to craft a Force Field Inverter. Crafting this will let you enter the Octomian Base.
Talking with the Octomians will eventually lead you to Cence who has created a device that is capable of closing rifts. The first Rift Repairer is free, afterwards, each Rift Repairer will cost 10 Void crystals to acquire. To get new Rift Repairers you have to talk with Cence and she will trade you one for 10 Void crystals.
Closing a Rift
So how do we use the Rift Repairer?
Make your way to an open Rift while carrying the Rift Repairer in your inventory. You can find Rifts by checking your map and looking for the purple Rift icon.
After getting close to the Rift you can right-click the Rift Repairer in your inventory and left-click inside the borders of the Rift. The repairer will then destroy the Rift. (Do not drag and drop it out of your inventory)
If you miss the Rift you should be able to pick it up and try again. Make sure that you are standing outside of the Rift to avoid taking damage.
Repeat this process for each Rift that opens.
للنصيحة: After closing a Rift, the Rift will drop everything that was pulled into the center. Make sure you look for free loot on the ground in the area where the Rift was.
Shield Generator
To protect your base from a sudden Void Rift, You will need to craft and power a Shield Generator in your base. To be able to craft this you will need to research:
- Basic Defense Parameter.
- Defense Parameter.
- Forcefield Generation.
And gather the following materials:
- 1 x Phase Core
- 4 x Refined Feron
The Force Field Generator uses 3 power to run, so make sure that you have enough power in your grid to support the shield. The Force Field Generator creates a dome shield around itself, so it is recommended to build it in the middle of your base.
Managing Power Usage
As your base will be using a lot of power it is important to understand how much power each structure uses, and how much power you have available. To do this mouse over any structure that requires power and is connected to your grid.
For this example which is pictured here, we will be inspecting a Data Laboratory.
The number after the name of the structure shows how much power it requires. A minus means it requires power and a plus means it supplies power. في هذه الحالة, it requires 3 power to run a Data Laboratory.
At the bottom, we see Grid status, which will go offline if there is no power supplied, or if your grid gets overloaded.
Grid Power refers to how much power is currently flowing through your grid. You can raise this number by adding extra power supplies.
Power used refers to how much power is currently needed to run everything in your grid.
وأخيرا, Battery Banks are how many Batteries are connected to your grid. If your grid is overloaded it will start drawing power from your batteries.
Summary
By completing these steps, we have now successfully made it through the Mid Game portion of Beyond Contact. We should now have a base that will provide us with everything we need to survive the Mid Game, such as food and enough sustainable energy to keep our Oxygenator and Thermo Bulb running at all times during the play session. We are also able to deal with Void Rifts as they appear, and are no longer in threat of losing our base because of them.
